Playwise (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Playwise application and website at playwise.games. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your information when you use our service.

By creating an account or using Playwise, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

Our Privacy Commitments

These principles are non-negotiable and govern every privacy decision at Playwise:

• Your data is never sold. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party under any circumstances.
• Your data is never shared individually. No personally identifiable information is shared with advertisers or any external party.
• Data is used to improve your experience. Data we collect exists to make predictions more accurate and recommendations more useful. It is not used for advertising.
• You own your data. You can export, correct, and delete your data at any time.

What We Collect

Information you provide

• Account information — email address (authentication only, never displayed publicly), first name, username, and the profile photo you choose to upload (stored by Clerk, our sign-in provider)
• Gaming data — game library, play history, game ownership across platforms
• Ratings and play records — your rating of a game, what stood out and what let you down, how challenging it was, completion status, hours played, and any private review you write
• Onboarding responses — platform ownership, play style preferences, difficulty tolerance, visual style preferences, and other taste calibration inputs
• Platform imports — library and play history from the PlayStation, Steam or Xbox accounts you connect, and from files you import

Information collected automatically

• Usage data — sessions, feature interactions, recommendation views, purchase link clicks
• Country — inferred from your IP address on first sign-in (via Cloudflare). Used for product functionality and aggregate analytics only. Not stored as a permanent profile field.
• Affiliate click data — tracked via cookies on desktop browsers to detect purchase conversions through affiliate partners

Information we do not collect

• Age, sex, gender, or demographic information of any kind
• Your email is an authentication credential only — it is never displayed publicly or used for advertising

How We Use Your Information

• Personalized predictions — generating Playwise Scores, Value Scores, and purchase recommendations tailored to your taste profile
• Taste profile — setting your profile from your setup answers and reactions, and from the preferences you change in Settings. Ratings you give are recorded with the prediction they're compared against; during early access they don't change your profile
• Play queue prioritization — ranking your owned games by predicted enjoyment and completion likelihood
• Product improvement — tracking prediction accuracy against actual scores to improve our scoring models
• Service communication — sending account-related emails such as sign-in confirmations, security alerts, and product updates you have opted into

What We Share

We do not sell or share your personal data. If we produce aggregate, anonymized insights, they will never contain information that could identify you.

Service providers

We use third-party services for hosting, authentication, analytics, and error monitoring. These providers receive only the minimum data needed to perform their function and are bound by their own privacy policies.

AI-generated content

Written reads (such as a game's Match analysis, a comparison of 2 games, or a read on a game you've finished) are written by AI, and each one is labeled. To write one, we send the AI provider we use for that feature the ratings, play history, preferences and notes that the read is about. We may use different AI providers for different features, and may change them. Ask Playwise sends the question you type. No names, emails or account identifiers are ever sent to an AI provider.

Affiliate links

Purchase links may route through affiliate partners. Affiliate tracking uses cookies on desktop browsers. No Playwise user data is shared with affiliate partners.

Your Privacy Controls

You can manage your privacy from your account settings, including deleting your account and all associated data at any time.

Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all personal data associated with it is deleted. Temporary records such as import logs are automatically purged after 90 days.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data
• Deletion — request that we delete your personal data. You can delete your account at any time from Settings > Privacy & Data.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below or use the self-service options in your account settings. We will respond to all requests within 30 days.

For California residents (CCPA)

You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of any sale of personal information. Playwise does not sell personal information. You will not receive discriminatory treatment for exercising your privacy rights.

For European residents (GDPR)

Our legal basis for processing your data is your consent (provided at account creation) and our legitimate interest in providing and improving the service. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe your data has been processed unlawfully.

Cookies and Tracking

• Essential cookies — used for authentication and session management
• Analytics — we use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics that do not track you across sites
• Affiliate cookies — used on desktop only for purchase conversion attribution
• No advertising cookies — Playwise does not use advertising trackers or third-party ad networks

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS), industry-standard authentication, protection against injection attacks, and rate limiting to prevent abuse.

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children's Privacy

Playwise is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. For significant changes, we will also notify you via email or an in-app notification.
