Frequently Asked Questions
What is Playwise?
Playwise predicts how much you'll enjoy a game before you buy it, and helps you choose what to play next from the games you already own. Think of it as a second opinion that only cares about your taste.
How does it know what I'll like?
From you. In setup you pick your platforms and genres, say what you avoid and how you like to play, and react to a few well-known games. Playwise reads every game against those answers, looking at what each one is actually like to play: how it controls, how deep it goes, its world, its story, how it looks and how it sounds.
Do I have to keep it updated?
No. Your scores come from your answers, and changing one in Settings updates them right away. Logging what you play keeps your library, hours and stats current, but it's up to you.
Do I have to rate every game?
No. Rate the ones you have feelings about. Each rating sits beside Playwise's prediction, so you can see how close it got.
What if I don't have much history yet?
That's fine. Setup takes about 2 minutes, and every game has a score as soon as you're done. Your library adds context, like the games a written read compares against, but you don't need one to start.
Will a prediction always match my rating?
No, and sometimes it'll be well off. A prediction is Playwise's best guess from what you've told it and what the game is like. Once you rate a game, you'll see the prediction beside your rating, gap and all.
Is any of it written by AI?
Yes. Written reads, like a game's Match analysis or a comparison of 2 games, are written by AI from your ratings and play history, and each one is labeled. Scores, verdicts and rankings are calculated, not written.
What platforms does Playwise support?
Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, PC and Xbox, including Steam on PC. Link Nintendo, PlayStation, Steam or Xbox to import your library, hours included; keeping it in sync after that is part of Playwise+. You can also bring your Nintendo purchase history for games you haven't played yet, a spreadsheet, a Google Sheet, or an export from Grouvee or HowLongToBeat.
What makes this different from checking Metacritic?
Metacritic tells you what critics thought. Playwise predicts what you'll think. Both are worth knowing, and they're often not the same answer.
Is Playwise free?
Yes. Scores, verdicts, your library, your wishlist and price alerts are all free. Playwise+ adds AI-written reads, ongoing library sync, smarter sale alerts and deeper stats, from $5 a month.
How do I get access?
Playwise is invite-only during early access. If you received an invitation, sign up directly at the link in your invite.
Is my data safe?
